Deathtrasher
Interview a Turms, Veltha and
Feronia in 2005
Hello Turms, How are you?.... when did Hinthruna
start to play?
Hello Armando! Hinthruna
are born in September 2002 by the union of two bands: Enter Deathcry and
Hadeshorn. In September 2003 we enter in the recording studio, and the demo,
called “Black Woods Of Oblivion”, is recorded in 4 days. Then begins a strong
work of promotion which brings us to be reviewed in several magazines, fanzine
and web-sites, often in a positive way. We make part in 3 compilations
(distributed all over the world) called: Support The Underground, Raw and Wild
and Metal Ostentation, this last one performed by the portuguese label Sound
Riot.
Now we are working on a
promo cd which contains 3 songs and will be distributed only to labels, waiting
for our first album called “Thyrrenika”, a concept album which will tell about
Etruscans’ history.
Who put the name of the band and why?... who designed
the HINTHRUNA's logo?
The name Hinthruna represents, in
the best way, the philosophy of our
band. Literally in etruscan language, it means “infernal destiny”, Hintu=hell
and Thruna =destiny. It has been selected, among various alternatives, in
common accord from the members of the band.
Behind the choice to
use the etruscan language, we can find
the will to distinguish us from the rest of the Black Metal bands, as it
regards the thematic treat. Secondarily we wanted to talk about the tyrrenian
culture and the history of this mysterious people. Hinthruna symbolises the
destiny of humanity to turn our planet
into a hell. Through our music, we want
to describe the brutality of the human kind against himself and his own home.
The Hintruna’s logo has
been designed from our guitarist Feronia, a fan of extreme metal visual art.
What topics do you consider in your
songs and who writes the music and lyrics in the band?
The lyrics of our songs
are entirely due to Veltha, the singer of the band. A member of the group
usually proposes some ideas, some riffs, after that, the whole group begins to
work about it, building the song. Every song of Hinthruna is always an
Hinthruna’s work!
Do you think that wearing chains, blood,
make-up and all that stuff is important for you image?
I think that this is an important aspect for a great part of the black
metal band. But this can become dangerous if it had to take too weight in the
identity of a band.
For Hinthruna’ s members the
look is important, but fundamental are
the spirit and the music.
Are you into Serial Killers?... tell me
your opinion about ED GEIN, RICHARD RAMIREZ and CHARLES MANSON?
Hinthruna lyrics talk about the deepest aspects of Human’s Psyche. I think that violence is one
of these aspects, the worst, and it lives in many levels, inside us. The examples
that you have cited to me, have in common similar childhood experiences, spent
to stand to every kind of abuses. In adult age you feel yourself authorised to
give back, amplified, what you received
in the past. Are serial killers just executioners or victims of society?
Which was your best Show with HINTHRUNA?
Our best show was at Sonar in July 2004, with our metal-friends
Dysthymia (www.dysthymia.it), Essence and Nof4: a great night of extreme metal,
with lots of people who rise an insane headbanging!
How do you describe your style?... what
topics do you consider in your lyrics?
We can describe our
style as a sum of the various black metal currents, expecially atmospheric,
with death, thrash and classic metal influences. As I have already said, the lyrics
talk about the deepest, both positive and negative, aspects of the human
nature. This is often analysed describing things both real and not real. The
first ones try to create visions of episodes or historical contest, the seconds
are the representation in words of allegorical images or dreams.
Which do you prefer?
Cadaveria or Necrodeath?
Necrodeath! Only Necrodeath!
PC or Macintosh? PC!
Sadist or Angel Death? Sadist
Gothenburg, Birmingham or Florida? Birmingham. The beginning of metal
history.
What CD's / bands have you been
listening to lately?
Lately I have listened to the releases of Enslaved, Darkthrone, Amon Amarth. Three
excellent albums. Instead, “Plague
Angel” of Marduk has not convinced
me.
In these days I have had the opportunity
and the honour to listen the next
release of the Coram Lethe, the greatest Italian Death Metal band. Do you know
them?
Tell me your opinion about ANTON SZANDOR
LA VEY and THE CHURCH OF SATAN please.
I think that Anton La
Vey has been very important for what concerns the metal culture.
Philosopher, mystic and esoteric man, his great charisma permitted him to
influence a lot of band, first among all, the great King Diamond. He has
committed only one serious error: to proclaim reverend of the Church of Satan
Marylin Manson.
What do you think about LORENA BOBBIT?
Lorena Bobbit… is she a famous ornithologist, it’s true?
Are you a STAR WARS fan?
Yes I’m a star wars’ fan, and obviously I support the Dark Side.
What can you talk me about the Italian
Black Metal Scene?
In my opinion the Italian
scene doesn't receive the correct attention. There are a lot of interesting
bands that now I will quote to you, for example: Handful Of Hate (the best
italian black metal band. Their last release “Vicecrown” is a masterpiece!),
Opera IX, Mortuary Drape, Stormlord, Tod, Malnatt , Thod, Common Grave, The
True Endless, Disguise, Fortiis, Ars Macabra, Sakahiter...
Your favourite European bands?
My favourite european band are Immortal, but unfortunately they
stop playing. I like scandinavian band, especially Satyricon, Enslaved, Amon
Amarth. I also like the german thrash scene (Kreator, Sodom and Destruction)
and english historical bands (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Motorhead). I like
also Bathory... R.I.P.
Were you into Punk Rock? What do you
think of the Punk Rock Scene of the Late 70’s?
I love the punk rock
of 70’s and the early 80’s and the first
hard core scene. My favourites bands are Sex pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Ramones and over all Exploited. It’s my opinion that
Black Metal is a today’s transposition of Punk Rock nonconformist spirit.
We mention a name, and you give us your
thoughts
Dynabyte – Modern techno metal with Cadaveria and John (Necrodeath)
Schizo – “Thrash the unthrashable… thrash to
kill" Cult demo
Mondocane – Side project with members from Schizo and Necrodeath
Vanadium – Historical heavy metal band with Pino Scotto singer (today in
the Fire Trails)
Mortuary Drape – Occult Black Metal. The
history of black metal italian scene
Ghoul – Their release “We came for the dead”
is... Horror Death Metal!
Stigma – Aggressive Deathcore Metal
Delirium X Tremens – Very very very good extreme metal
Corpsefusking Art – Pure Fucking Brutal
Armando... regards for your knowledge of italian metal scene!!!
Tell us all about "Black Woods Of
Oblivion" please
“Black
Woods Of Oblivion” is our first demo, it is composed of five songs and an
intro, 25 minuts of extreme music! We propose a black metal with wild and
atmospheric sounds. We use voice in a particular way, because Veltha uses three
different style: scream, growl and clean.
In what musical
direction will HINTHRUNA be heading in for the next production?
Currently we are
trying to make more personal our style, joining all the
types of extreme metal, conforming all with a solid base of atmospheric black
metal. Our next work is called “Thyrrenica”, we are recording it in these days.
I can tell you that production is really powerful and we are very satisfied.
Your last growl for DEATHTHRASHER's
