Many times I underlined that newer Italian underground metal scene is reach with black metal bands.  Hinthruna is confirming this statement. They are formed on September 2002, and from the very beginning they wanted to perform their version of black genre, with some metal elements. Firstly they tried to coordinate they playing and made several performances around Siena.  Beside the own material, they also played covers of various bands belonging similar music genres.  During September 2003, they entered the studio and in four days finished demo "Black Woods Of Oblivion".

Songs that can be heard on this demo are pretty different comparing to some standard variants which are offered by newer black genre bands, maybe because of it that their approach has a lot of death metal elements, and especially thrash elements.  Vocal is also treated differently in respect to the cases with bands of similar music genres.  Vocal is brought in first line, and even some instruments got "secondly" role.

"Black Woods Of Oblivion" is technically well done. An interesting artwork, also, is part of this MCD-R and might be said that the first steps of these young Italians are well done.  Hinthruna, is quintet with underlined role of vocal in complete structure of their songs.

Points: 7 / 10

Metal Domination

Black metal , this kind of metal deriver to us, this band from Italy. Hinthruna, is the

name of the band and this is their latest work. The band plays black metal with

extreme and clean vocals, they have some very good guitar riffs, they have very

good drum parts, but they must work more in the production section. I like also very

much their cover of the demo. I hope to hear from this band in the nearest future.

Throne Of Torment

Young quintet coming from Tuscany (in the language of the ancient inhabitants of the region the monicker is a composite word meaning “Infernal Destiny”), this disc being its first effort so far. What emerges undisputedly even after a quick listening is that this “Black Woods…” show san act with a great vitality and the courageous will to do their own thing and walk a personal path without plainly repeating or re-interpretating the topics of the masters. And this is a feature that, in my opinion, is always appreciable.

Hinthruna plays a rather interesting sort of sympho-epic black metal, enriching a basical extreme structure (blackish in the fast part, closer to death in the mid-tempos) with diverse atmospheres and quite heterogeneous elements: here and there you can actually find some suggestive, classic epic metal tunes and some Virgin Steele, Domine or Mercyful Fate inspired vocals!!!

Granted the singularity of their approach to music (think of a weird mix of Mortuary Drape and some old Greek black metal melted Virgin Steele, Domine and Mercyful Fate), I can’t say the mission is a hand-down success because this greatest variety of stylistic languages tends to ingenerate a certain lack of compactness in the songs (as well as in the band-concept itself, I’d dare say). Although I prefer extreme metal to be just straightforward, gloomy and brutal music, I cannot negate the band successes in creating some awesome moments of music.

Some other positive elements of this debut are the great performance of the vocalist, able to play in this wide range of styles with carisma, remarkable capabilities and effectiveness, the decent sound quality (even if drum are too thin and the vocals way too prominent) and the fascinating lyrics (but keep an eye open on orthography).

Sure, the band is for some aspect not completely mature yet, but I’m pretty confident the guys will back soon and offer some convincing material if they’ll able to refine your style.

A band with promising personality and lots of ideas to elaborate. But be alerted because the risk of losing direction and overloading your music is concrete.

Jedbangers

¿A favor?
